Recognition for outstanding personal and scientific achievements goes to a researcher at the PRISMA Detector Laboratory

The Sibylle Kalkhof-Rose University Award from Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz (JGU) in the category of Natural Sciences and Medicine has been awarded to Dr. Stefan Schoppmann of the PRISMA⁺⁺ Cluster of Excellence. The award recognizes outstanding personal and scientific achievements by JGU researchers and comes with a prize of 25,000 euros.

Stefan Schoppmann has been at JGU since 2022, where he initially conducted research as a fellow at the PRISMA Detector Laboratory. Since 2026, Schoppmann has held an ERC Consolidator Grant and has led the NuDoubt++ project, which investigates rare nuclear decays. His specialty is the development of detectors for the study of weakly interacting particles in the PRISMA Detector Laboratory. There, the Cluster of Excellence provides laboratories and workspaces to offer scientists with diverse hardware expertise a shared research environment and infrastructure.
