Despite its success, it fails to explain some phenomena such as the existence of dark matter or the excess of matter over antimatter. Furthermore, some unexplained puzzles, such as the discrepancy between experimental measurements and the theoretical prediction of the anomalous magnetic moment of muons, challenge the validity of the Standard Model and may provide the first clues for &#8220;new physics&#8221; beyond the Standard Model.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-big-font-size\">The <strong>C<strong>luster of Excellence<\/strong> PRISMA<sup>++<\/sup><\/strong> makes unique contributions to the investigation of these open questions related to the validity of the Standard Model. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-big-font-size\">PRISMA<sup>++<\/sup> scientists are searching for new particles and forces using a combination of innovative precision experiments conducted on the JGU campus and large-scale experiments at international locations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-big-font-size\">One of the main objectives of this cluster is the construction and operation of the <strong>&#8220;Mainz Energy-Recovering Superconducting Accelerator&#8221; (MESA)<\/strong>. MESA enables a new generation of low-energy precision experiments, such as the search for messenger particles for the dark sector, measurements of the electromagnetic form factors of protons at low momentum transfers, precision determinations of the electroweak mixing angle, and measurements of the neutron skin of heavy nuclei. <\/p>\n\n\n<jgu-base-slider noopener\"><strong>Helmholtz Institute Mainz<\/strong><\/a> for Structure, Symmetry and Stability of Matter and Antimatter (HIM) is a strategic partner of the Cluster of Excellence PRISMA<sup>++<\/sup>. It offers additional infrastructure on the JGU campus and focuses on new research opportunities in hadron physics, especially at the FAIR facility of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gsi.de\/start\/aktuelles\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>GSI<\/strong><\/a> Darmstadt. <\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph {\"translatedWithWPMLTM\":\"1\"} -->\n<p class=\"has-big-font-size\">Another partner at the national level is the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.helmholtz-berlin.de\/index_de.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Helmholtz-Zentrum Berlin<\/strong><\/a> (HZB). The collaboration was crucial for testing the MESA cryomodules in the bERLinPro accelerator facility. <\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph {\"translatedWithWPMLTM\":\"1\"} -->\n<p class=\"has-big-font-size\">At the international level, PRISMA<sup>++<\/sup> works closely with the leading national research laboratory for Particle Physics in the USA, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fnal.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Fermilab<\/strong><\/a> (FNAL).<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:jgu\/logo-grid -->\n<!-- The fact that tradition and progress do not have to be an excessive contrast is revealed in the Rhineland-Palatinate state capital in everyday life. With its 2000-year history, Mainz has remained young. The Rhine metropolis, where Romans, electors and personalities such as Barbarossa and Gutenberg left their mark, is today a picturesque home for people, business and science. Since 2011, Mainz has been the CITY OF SCIENCE.    <\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph {\"translatedWithWPMLTM\":\"1\"} -->\n<p class=\"has-big-font-size\">Mainz offers a variety of cultural attractions and is known for the \"Fastnacht\" (the 5th season), which is celebrated from November 11 until the beginning of Lent. Extensive viticulture characterizes the landscapes on the outskirts of the city, where a walk between vineyards at any time of year lets you forget the stress of everyday life. The surrounding area is also attractive, and day trips are a must, whether to the picturesque Rheingau with famous monasteries such as Eberbach, which is located high up, whether as a romantic boat trip on the Rhine or as a detour to the beautiful landscapes of the Hunsr\u00fcck, Odenwald and Taunus low mountain ranges. At the same time, the state capital is a central and vital business location.
