The Ministry of Education, Science, Continuing Education and Culture (MBWWK) of the state of Rhineland-Palatinate has selected the winners of the Rhineland-Palatinate Teaching Award 2014\/2015. A total of ten academics from seven higher education institutions in Rhineland-Palatinate were honored at yesterday’s award ceremony, including Junior Professor Dr. Matthias Schott from the Institute of Physics at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz (JGU), Julia-Maria von Schenck zu Schweinsberg from the Protestant Theological School at JGU, and PD Dr. Julia Weinmann-Menke from the Department of Medicine and Polyclinic I at Mainz University Medical Center. This award recognizes outstanding achievements in the field of teaching – based on nominations of lecturers by faculties and student councils, which are then evaluated in student surveys. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Receiving the state teaching award is a great recognition of dedicated teaching for the award winners,” said the President of Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz, Professor Dr. Georg Krausch. “And for the university as a whole, the award for three JGU lecturers is a confirmation of its teaching strategy and its efforts to promote academic teaching skills, further develop course structures, and optimize learning conditions.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As part of the “Knowledge Creates the Future” university program, the state government awarded the Rhineland-Palatinate Teaching Award for the first time in 2005. These prizes are awarded individually to university teaching staff for particularly good courses. The prizes are endowed with 10,000 euros each. The winners are determined according to a ranking compiled by the Evaluation Association of Institutes of Higher Education based on the evaluation of student surveys. On the questionnaires, students can evaluate and grade the courses they have attended by giving their rating on around 30 individual points. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n
