At its last meeting, the Academy of Sciences and Literature in Mainz admitted four new members, including Professor Dr. Matthias Neubert from the Institute of Physics at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz (JGU). As a theoretical physicist, Neubert’s work focuses on fundamental interactions and the properties of elementary particles. He was admitted as a full member of the Academy’s Mathematics and Natural Sciences Class.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Being accepted into the Academy is not only a great honor and distinction for me personally, but also a recognition of the basic research that I substitute. It is particularly nice when this work resonates outside the closed circle of physics,” says the scientist. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Matthias Neubert moved from the elite US university Cornell to Mainz in 2006, where he heads the Theoretical High Energy Physics (THEP) group and coordinates the Cluster of Excellence “Precision Physics Fundamental Interactions and Structure of Matter” (PRISMA) together with Prof. Dr. Hartmut Wittig. Neubert is also Director of the Mainz Institute for Theoretical Physics (MITP), an institution founded in 2012 that enables scientists from all over the world to meet in Mainz and advance their research together. In his academic papers, the physicist focuses in particular on Theoretical Elementary Particle Physics and quantum field theories as well as physical theories beyond the standard model. In 2012, he received an ERC Advanced Grant, the highest individual grant from the European Research Council, to research fundamental questions of electroweak interactions and the properties of elementary particles. As Director of the Gutenberg Research College (GRC), Matthias Neubert has been involved in the strategic development of cutting-edge research at Mainz University since 2010.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n
